Kalle Mattson

“Avalanche” (video) Ottawa-based singer-songwriter Kalle Mattson is set to return with a new EP titled Avalanche later this summer. Before the new six-song set arrives, though, he’s shared a new clip for the EP’s title track.
The video pays homage to 35 iconic album covers, depicting each one with Mattson’s own unique twist.
“I’ve had the video concept in my head for a long time actually,” Mattson said in a statement. “I remember being 10 or 11 years old flipping through the Rolling Stone 500 Greatest Albums of All Time magazine and choosing what records to borrow out of my dad’s collection based on the covers alone. All of the albums we recreated are super important to me and the video sort of serves as a window into what has influenced me growing up discovering music for the first time and then eventually writing songs.”
Ever humble, he continued: “One of my main worries was that this would seem like a bit of an ego trip inserting my face into a famous Dylan cover or something but I really think it came out as a work of love for the artists, their records and the covers that also make those albums so special.”
The final product includes nods to artists like Elliott Smith, Jay Z, Wilco, Raddiohead, the Velvet Underground, Ramones, Beck, and even the Backstreet Boys. Watch the clip below and play along to see how many you can guess.
Avalanche is officially out on August 21 through Home Music Co.
