Heartland rocking Philadelphian Kurt Vile had already promised that his new album b’lieve i’m goin down would be out this fall. Now, he’s fleshed out the details and shared a new song. The record will arrive on September 25 through Matador Records.
Recording took place in various locales, including Los Angeles and Joshua Tree in California. A press release calls the results “both deeply introspective and briskly self-assured.”
See the tracklist below, and scroll past that to check out a video for the opening cut “Pretty Pimpin.” It’s a characteristically mellow acoustic rock tune about feelings of self-alienation, while the Daniel Henry-directed clip shows Vile looking disaffected as he loiters around Los Angeles.
In a statement about Vile, longtime fan Kim Gordon had this to say:
Kurt does his own myth-making; a boy/man with an old soul voice in the age of digital everything becoming something else, which is why this focused, brilliantly clear and seemingly candid record is a breath of fresh air. Recorded and mixed in a number of locations, including Los Angeles and Joshua tree, b’lieve i’m goin down… is a handshake across the country, east to west coast, thru the dustbowl history (“valley of ashes”) of woody honest strait forward talk Guthrie, and a cali canyon dead still nite floating in a nearly waterless landscape. The record is all air, weightless, bodyless, but grounded in convincing authenticity, in the best version of a singer songwriter upcycling.
The album will be available to pre-order at Vile’s online store imminently. It comes as a single CD or a double LP. There’s also an expanded triple-vinyl edition called b’lieve i’m goin (deep) down with six bonus cuts. What’s more, digital pre-orders on iTunes and Amazon will come with two bonus tracks.
