Toronto has reportedly lost one of its rising rappers, and reports have emerged that Redway was killed early this morning (August 1) in a car crash near Pearson International Airport.
Although there hasn’t yet been any official confirmation from the police or Redway’s reps, word has already spread around social media, and Complex notes that the rapper’s name is trending on Twitter in Canada.
According to a report on CP24, a male driver (believed to be Redway) was driving with two female passengers at around 4 a.m. when he lost control of the car, which hit a guardrail and caught on fire. Constable Kerry Schmidt said that police are seeking witnesses and still don’t know the cause of the accident.
Shane Redway was 26 and hailed from Mississauga. His most recent mixtape was 2014’s Years Ahead, which Exclaim! called “a scorcher.” In June of this year, he wrote on Facebook that he was working on a new EP. Check out some of his music below.
